Ryan Brown is a professional chef who has trained with the worlds most decorated chefs at restaurants around the globe. During his 20 year climb to an executive level, he has travelled extensively and gained an authentic exposure to a wealth of international cuisines and cultures.
Hospitality and creativity are the pillars in his life, and Ryan excels in his application of these in environments ranging from 5-star luxury to simple & convivial.
He is based in London, UK when not traveling on an adventure with his husband, and also enjoys exploring other creative outlets such as writing and photo/video content.
Biography
Thanks for visiting my blog and supporting my evolving passions in creativity, which have always been a significant part of my life.
I grew up in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and fell in love with creating in the kitchen. At the age of 14 I got my break while working at a friends strip mall Chinese takeaway making fried rice. A passion was born to create in the kitchen in a flurry of fire, salt, and emotion. My mom was a stickler for following recipes carefully and levelling measuring spoons, while imagination and a playful spirit were encouraged by my dad. I understood the pleasures of hospitality at an early age, and took great pride and enjoyment from playing chef, bartender and host at any opportunity to bring others pleasure.
By the age of 20 I would graduate from one of Canada’s leading culinary institutions and reputed academy for aspiring restaurateurs. Eager to continue learning from the best, I journeyed to work for what has since been crowned the best restaurant in the world, the 3 Michelin starred Mirazur in France, and to work for my mentor, Thomas Keller in California, USA. My hunger for knowledge and pursuit of excellence led me around the world to work for titans of the industry, gaining exposure to philosophies & relationships with food and the technique employed in its creation. Eager to understand more than simply how to transform ingredients, I also took time away from the kitchen to travel Europe and work with farmers and rural artisans to learn about the most important époque for food; when it is grown. This international culinary awakening was followed by almost a decade in London, UK, forming my business acumen from some of the most successful names in hospitality, including time under the most decorated chef in the world.
With experience cooking in 5 countries for the reputation of 6 Michelin stars, and 2 landmark restaurant openings, I’m eager to refocus my creative energies with the diversity I once did; through simple cooking for the ones I love, writing and photography. After years of experience in professional cookery, I dream of being able to bring others joy with all I’m able to create, inspired by my perspective on the world.
